Petícia Belgickému kráľovi
Tento týždeň viac ako 155.000 Európanov žiadalo Belgického kráľa, aby sa postavil proti eutanázii detí. Očakáva sa, že o niekoľko dní podpíše zákon povoľujúci v Belgicku eutanáziu bez vekového obmedzenia. Je veľmi pravdepodobné, že to urobí. Nech nás potom nemrzí, že sme neurobili všetko, čo bolo v našich silách. Petíciou vysielame jasný signál vyzývajúci kráľa odmietnuť a nepodpísať spomínaný zákon.
Zástancovia života ho vyzývajú, aby zákon podpísať odmietol a prihlásil sa k postoju, aký pred štvrťstoročím zaujal jeho strýko kráľ Baudouin. Ten sa v roku 1990 vzoprel podpísať liberalizáciu abortu za cenu vlastného odstúpenia z trónu.

Sie sind der König der Belgier und als solcher Ihrem Volk verpflichtet. Grundsätzlich sind Sie gewohnt, jedes Gesetz zu unterschreiben, das von einem demokratisch gewählten Organ vorgesetzt wird. Auch wenn Sie vielleicht nicht einverstanden sind. Es gibt jedoch Gesetze, die nicht nur Belgien, sondern langfristig auch Europa betreffen werden.
Ein solches ist das geplante, erschreckende Euthanasiegesetz für Minderjährige, das Signalcharakter für ganz Europa haben wird. Hören Sie auf die vielen Stimmen in In- und Ausland, die vor diesem Gesetz warnen – auf Ihre Bischofskonferenz, auch auf den Europarat, der eine klare Erklärung dagegen verfasst hat.
Und so wenden auch wir, die Unterzeichner, uns an Sie und bitten Sie dringend: Unterschreiben Sie dieses Gesetz nicht, auch wenn Sie dafür in der Öffentlichkeit gerade stehen müssen. Sagen Sie nicht Ja zum erschreckendsten Gesetz zur Euthanasie weltweit.
Hören Sie auf Ihr Gewissen und zeigen Sie sich als Monarch mit ethischen Prinzipien. Zeigen Sie sich der Herausforderung würdig, für die Sie ein Leben lang vorbereitet worden sind.

You are the King of the Belgians and as such committed to your people. You are used to signing every law that has been adopted by the democratically elected Parliament, even if you do not agree with them. However, there are laws that will affect not only Belgium but also Europe in the long term.
This law is unique and it serves as a sign to other countries that it might be permissible to introduce such laws. Please listen to the many voices at home and abroad, warning you of the dangers of this law – your Episcopal Conference and the members of parliaments across Europe who have spoken up clearly against this law.
As concerned citizens of Europe, we write to you to urge you not to sign this bill, even if it will be a challenge for you to defend this decision. Please do not say yes to the most frightening law on euthanasia worldwide.
Listen to your conscience and stand as a monarch with ethical principles. Show yourself worthy of the challenge for which you have been prepared throughout your life.
